Billy George
Francis William George, Jr, age 80, of Meherrin, VA, passed away peaceful on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Duval County, Florida, on October 5, 1942, to the late Francis William George, Sr., and Lettie Jane McRae George.
Francis graduated from Lake City Florida High School, was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1966, and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a retired construction Superintendent.
Francis enjoyed fishing and studying history. He loved his dogs, Peanut (deceased), Dilbert, Fred, and Woody.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Althea George of Meherrin, VA; a brother, Hal George of Pensacola, FL; two daughters, Melissa Inman and husband, Weldon of Perry, FL, Angie Mathis of Tallahassee, FL; three sons, Jimmy George and wife, Teresa of Florida, Michael George and wife, Lisa of Richmond, VA, Robert Lee George of Sanford, NC; four step-daughters, Amanda Hatfield of Prospect, VA, Elizabeth Colton and husband, John of Meherrin, VA, Sharron Shook and husband, James of Meherrin, VA, Rachel Wilson and husband, Rodney of Burkeville, VA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Marble Hill Church of God Meherrin, VA. The Reverend Stephen Shupe will be officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the memorial service.
